Silk fabric can be washed and pressed at home by following some simple steps. it is important to remember that silk is a natural fibre and contrary to popular belief, silk is not really difficult to care for."Wash in tepid water and mild soap"
Let the garment soak and rub any stains very gently. Hard rubbing, when wet, can damage the fabric.
Rinse the garment very well. Use a teaspoon of white vinegar in the rinse to keep colors bright and true.
Gently wring excess water from the silk. Roll garment in a towel to reduce the amount of water. Lay the garment on a towel to dry, making sure all edges (hem and sleeves) are even.
When damp, roll the garment and place it in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for half an hour before pressing.
Press evenly with medium heat on the wrong side of the garment.¡¡À
It warns not to allow perfume or colognes to come into direct contact (when wet) with silk fabric as alcohol or alcoholic drinks can disturb the dye.
"Some dyes are also light-sensitive and prolonged exposure to the sun can cause fading. Commercial spot remover is not recommended as some commercial products affect the dye".
