Silk is a natural filament which contains protein, so care is needed to make sure it does not deteriorate. Washing methods are especially important. In the past people used coconut milk to wash silk, but it is now more common to use dry-cleaning chemicals or soft alkaline soap. Adding two or three drops of baby oil during washing will preserve the silk's lustre and make ironing easier. The silk should be wind dried. Before ironing the cloth should be sprayed lightly with water, then ironed on the inside at a high temperature and finally ironed on the outside.
