Stoles are used in all the cultures alike be it Indian, European, mid East, American or African. Stoles are a part of ceremonial and cultural wear. The stoles are highly decorative accessories. The fabric used is rich. The weave pattern is almost invariably present. Upon that it is embellished with traditional embroidery.

The embroidery technique is indigenous to the culture. Like for stoles to suit Indian dressing, traditional Indian stitches and motifs are used and for Christian ceremonies, motifs from bible are often used. Same holds true to all cultures.

Stole are generally very long. They may be embroidered at the borders or all over. The stole part that covers the body reaching the legs is often richly embroidered. It may be adorned with beads and sequins and shells. Metallic thread and zardozi are quite commonly used.
